SWIMMING.
We got a membership at the local YMCA last year because we wanted to be healthier, be a more fit family. We really enjoy it. We take yoga classes, Pilates, I do Zumba, along with the basic gym things, like cardio and weights. We can drop Dallas off at the daycare they have in the building and we have 2 hours of kid free workouts. The one thing I stayed away from was the pool.
I am 32 years old and I did not know how to swim. It must’ve been a combination of my mom being so afraid of the water that they never bothered to teach us (actually I don’t even know if my dad knows how to swim, do my brothers? I’ll have to ask) and while living in Argentina we didn’t have regular access to a swimming pool, we had the kiddie pool in the summers but you can’t swim in that.
So a couple of months ago I saw a flyer about adult swimming lessons. And I thought now or never. I signed up, and went to my first class. I was a little afraid, but not terrified at all. I was excited. The teacher asked me to show her what I knew, which was next to nothing, haha! But after the very first class I could float and move my arms somewhat. It felt so good! The rest of the lessons only got me more excited to learn, I got a better swimsuit, goggles and earplugs (I hate water in my ears, who doesn’t?). I even went by myself in between classes during the week to practice. I had my last lesson the weekend before Thanksgiving. I’m very proud of myself, and I’m not bad at it. Plus, its a great workout!
Anyone crossed something off their Life List?

I’m super proud of you, Tami. Swimming is one of those things on my list as well. I can do the Motel 6 swim and survive, but the whole breathing thing is beyond me. Hope to see you soon.
